
Professor Fredrick Jones Muyodi
Fredrick Jones Muyodi is the Writing Center Inaugural Chair. He is a Professor in Water
Resources Management with over 20 years’ experience. Based in the College of Natural
Sciences (CONAS), previously served as the College Deputy Principal (July 2017 to March
2022), having also served as Dean School of Biosciences (April 2014 to June 2017). Holds a
PhD in Water Resources Management (2000, University of Dar es Salaam & University of
Nijmegen, The Netherlands), an MSc in Wastewater Treatment (1996) and BSc with Education
(1993) from the University of Dar es Salaam. Other professional qualifications include
Certificate in Research Management and Executive Leadership (IREX / UASP) awarded by
George Mason University, USA and a Certificate in Integrated and Adaptive Water Resources
Planning, Management and Governance by McGill University, Canada. Has supervised and
mentored 8 PhDs, 17+ MSc and 50+ undergraduate projects. Currently a PI on project titled
“Empowering Knowledge Economies: Operationalizing the Writing Center at Makerere
University to Strengthen Capacity in Grant Writing, Publication and Innovation Management.”
Was a PI on ‘Towards a research-led university: Strengthening Makerere University’s
research, grant writing and publication capacity’, a partnership project between Makerere
University and Michigan State University, USA (2022 – 2023). An IREX / UASP Fellow; a
Visiting Research Fellow (2018/19); AAP Alumnus; Awarded Senior Research Management
Professional (SARIMA). Have successfully completed training as a Writing Consultant by
Michigan State University Writing Center, to serve in MakWC.
Associate Professor Ronald Bisaso

Ronald Bisaso is Co-Chair of the Makerere University Writing Center (MakWC). He holds a PhD in Administrative Science specializing in Higher Education Management from the University of Tampere in Finland, a Master of Science in Educational and Training Systems Design from the University of Twente in the Netherlands, and a Bachelor of Arts with Education from Makerere University. He is an Associate Professor of Higher Education and Deputy Principal, College of Education and External Studies at Makerere University. He has served as a mentor in the African Futures Research Leadership Program (August 2023-July 2024) at the Alliance for African Partnership (AAP) hosted at Michigan State University (MSU). He trained in Research Management and Leadership (2020 2021) at the George Mason University in the US under the University Administration Support Program (UASP) funded by Carnegie Corporation of New York administered by IREX. He is a member of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA). He serves as chairperson/team leader and
member on taskforces/ inspection committees set up by the regulator, Uganda National Council
for Higher Education (NCHE). He is a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences
(FUNAS). Have successfully completed training as a Writing Consultant by Michigan State
University Writing Center, to serve in MakWC.
Ms Stella Kakeeto.

Stella Kakeeto is Co-Chair Planning and Administration. She is a Grants Manager at the School
of Public Health (MakSPH), Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS). She
holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with over a decade of experience managing
donor funded programs. She specializes in grants and contracts management, including
identifying research funding opportunities, research budgets, negotiating grant agreements,
ensuring compliance and managing grant lifecycles. As Coordinator of the MakCHS Seed Grant
Program and a member of the MakSPH Grants Management and Research Capacity Building
Committees, Stella supports junior researchers and mentors research administrators in writing
and managing grants. She has contributed to several capacity-building grants as a Principal
investigator including the NIH/NIAID G11 award, the IREX Grant writing Project and the US
Mission-funded Grant Writing Project. In 2015, her team secured an AuthorAID grant and
trained 68 junior researchers in proposal writing. A recognized Research Management
Professional, Stella serves on the executive boards of the East African Research and Innovation
Management Association (EARIMA) and the International Professional Recognition Council
(IPRC). In 2023, she received the Future of the Field Award from the Society of Research
Administrators International (in Seattle-Washington). She recently completed the UASP/IREX
supported fellowship in Research Management at Northeastern University and is dedicated to
advancing Makerere University’s research administration capacity. Have successfully completed
training as a Writing Consultant by Michigan State University Writing Center, to serve in MakWC.
Dr. Florence Nakamanya

Florence Nakamanya is the coordinator for the MakWC. She is a lecturer at the East African
School of Higher Education Studies and Development, Makerere University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management awarded in January 2018, a Master of Arts in Educational Policy and Planning and a Bachelor of Arts with Education, all from MakerereUniversity. She is committed to transforming higher education through research, leadership, and promoting gender equality. Florence completed a postdoctoral fellowship under the Africa Futures Research Leadership Program, hosted by the Alliance for African Partnership at Michigan State University, USA, in July 2024. She also trained in a writing consultancy role at the Michigan State University Writing Center. Her scholarly contributions include authoring and co-authoring numerous refereed journal articles and book chapters focusing on higher education. Florence has successfully implemented multi-year projects aimed at enhancing the leadership capacities of women in Ugandan universities and pedagogical leadership for academic staff in higher education institutions to enhance graduate work readiness and transition to work. She initiated an online platform for supporting graduate students in research and has mentored (4)
masters and (4) PhD students to completion at Makerere University.
Mr. Zziwa Charles.

Zziwa Charles is the Administrative Assistant Monitoring and Evaluation for the MakWC. He is
currently a Research Assistant of Makerere University Writing Center (MakWC). He holds a
postgraduate Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from Uganda Management Institute (UMI)
between 2022-2023, a Bachelor’s degree in Science in Population Studies (2017-2021) at
Makerere University. In the bid to prepare staff for the MakWC, Charles got an opportunity to
train with Michigan State University Writing Center as a Writing Consultant in 2024. Charles is
a dedicated published writer.
Ms. Aisha Nabaggala

Aisha Nabaggala is the MakWC Administrator. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences
and a Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management. She plans and coordinates
meetings including preparing agendas, schedule travels, meetings and appointments for project
staff. She is also responsible for tracking the project budget and ensure proper accountability of
the advanced funds not forgetting to keep proper records of all information related to the project.
