During the 75th graduation ceremony in January 2025, several faculty members from different colleges were awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards.
The Vice Chancellor found it important to streamline the process of identifying the best researchers and best teachers in the different Colleges in the University. This is in line with the Excellence Awards that are now a worldwide phenomenon, though they exist in different forms.
He therefore set up a Senate Committee with the overall objective of reviewing the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Award.
The Categorization of research excellence awards was made according to the Colleges, academic ranks, and academic disciplines. Categorization by Seniority is intended to encourage recognition of the young upcoming researchers; otherwise, they might be obscured by the senior researchers.
For the year 2024, the Committee considered four categories of awards out of the six award categories for each college in the university:
- Early career Award,
- Mid-career Award,
- Senior Researchers
- Award and
- The Best Teacher Award.
